Prayer In The Snow

I created this piece for The Friend magazine. I'm excited to share it here!

“Faster, faster!” Aimee yelled excitedly. Her best friend, Thalia, was pulling her across their neighborhood park’s field in a sled. It was the first big snow of the season, and Aimee and Thalia had already been at the near-empty park for hours.
Thalia gave one more big pull and collapsed next to Aimee, laughing. “I’m going
to get frostbite if I do this any more!” Thalia giggled.
“It’s probably almost time to go home for dinner.” Aimee said. Her mom gave Aimee a phone to use for emergencies, so she reached into her coat pocket to check the time.
Uh-oh. Aimee’s left pocket was unzipped and the phone wasn’t in it. She checked the other pocket. No phone. “Thalia, my phone is gone! My mom told me to keep my pocket zipped up, but I didn’t and now it’s gone! We need to get home soon! What are we going to do?”
Thalia jumped to her feet. “Don’t worry, we’ll search for it!”
The girls looked all over the park, but it was snowing again, and they couldn’t even find their tracks! “My hands are so cold!” Aimee whimpered. “We might even be pushing it down further by walking on the snow! I think we need to go tell my
mom and dad.”
“Wait!” Thalia exclaimed. “We haven’t prayed yet!”
Aimee remembered learning about prayer in their Primary class with Sister Hunt. She knew that prayer was a way to tell Heavenly Father what she hoped to accomplish, and a way to invite Him to lead her to the best life she could live.
Aimee and Thalia knelt down in the snow to pray. Aimee could feel the chill of the snow through her snowpants, but she folded her arms and bowed her head as
Thalia prayed.
“Heavenly Father, thank you for blessing us to be able to play together today.
Please help us find Aimee’s phone in time to go home for dinner, and please bless
it to still work.”
The girls stood up and looked around. “I know we already looked on that hill, but I think we should check again.” Aimee said.
After searching for a couple minutes, Aimee saw a small, mostly covered hole in the snow in the middle of the hill. Even though her hands were numb, she reached into the snow and felt something very cold and hard! She pulled it out, and it was her phone! Aimee clicked the power button and excitedly showed Thalia that it still worked, then she slipped the phone into her pocket- making sure to zip it up tight!
As Aimee walked home after saying bye to Thalia and thanking her for her help, she thought about how lucky she was to have friends to help her remember to pray to Heavenly Father when she needs help. She knows that Heavenly Father loves to help you, especially when you do your best to solve your problem even after asking Him for help. Aimee was glad she could always talk to her Heavenly Father.
