Through the one-of-a-kind program I graduated in, Editing And Publishing, I took courses that will uniquely prepare me for my career, including The Business Of Editing And Publishing, where I compared style guides, converted manuscripts to ready-to-publish ebooks, coded using XML and HTML, and created profit and loss statements, budgets, book blurbs, press releases and production schedules. In Print Publishing, I learned how to typeset, and designed projects in multiple programs, including Photoshop, Lightroom, Acrobat, InDesign, Canva, Premiere Pro and Premiere Rush. I learned how to format and send manuscripts to be printed successfully, and the importance of cover design and choice. In Social Media Marketing And Analysis, I learned all about SEO keywords and how best to strategize the release and design of digital content and social media posts.
My minor has provided many additional unique learning opportunities. In classes like Design Thinking, I learned about the creative process, making sure everyone’s voices and ideas are heard, and creating products to improve consumers' lives. In Creating a Good Life, I learned how to create a balance between work, family and personal life for mental and physical health. In the Experience Design and Management Lab, I worked with a team of peers to come up with a creative solution for Tammah Glamping’s customer disconnect issues, creating a successful, exciting and welcoming experience for customers from registration to the end of their stay. I also supported other teams in their ideation process to solve the loyalty and retention issues of other companies, including Breeze Airways, Jipe Jobs and Twisted Cow Creamery.
I worked on and published a travel magazine called Stowaway Magazine, researching, interviewing, writing, editing, fact-checking, designing, and leading its social media team. I also have experience with creating and advertising themes and events, due to my positions as a writer and editor for the Canny Kids monthly newsletter and social media assistant manager, the social media team lead for Stowaway Magazine, and as a member of the Miss Draper royalty. With the Young Editor’s Project, I help authors with YA and MG editing, and to give them a younger perspective on the realism of their literature.
I have very high administrative skills and strong written and oral communication skills. I’m friendly, organized, good at researching and prioritizing, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and practiced in pitching acquisitions. I value loyalty and putting forth 100% effort, ensuring manuscripts are the best they can be.
